The Polo Mk V was chosen from an initial entry list of 30 entries nominated by the 59 automotive journalists from around the globe on the judging panel. The jurors voted in Jan to establish a top ten shortlist, with a second round of voting occurred in Feb when jurors were asked to score the top ten candidates based on merit, value, safety, environment, significance and emotional appeal.
Finishing in second place was the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, while the Toyota Prius was placed third.
The company also picked up the 2010 World Green Car title through its BlueMotion (Golf, Passat, Polo) range, which was chosen from an initial entry list of 13 contenders nominated by the jurors, finishing ahead of the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius. To top it all off, the Audi R8 V10 took the World Performance Car title, finishing ahead of the Porsche 911 GT3 and Ferrari California.
