Volkswagen has launched the timeless Beetle supermini and the Touareg SUV as its halo brands. Prepare for more from the company soon!
Volkswagen has launched its super-successful New Beetle in the Indian market today. The car has been introduced with a price tag of Rs 20.45 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The car will be available as a CBU through Volkswagen dealerships.
The New Beetle has been launched with 115 bhp, 2.0-litre petrol engine. Adding to the comfort and ease of use will be the 6-speed automatic gearbox. The charm and appeal of the New Beetle nevertheless remains with its classic styling, inspired by the original people?s car that went on to become the best selling car of a single design in the world in its decades long run.
The New Beetle was introduced internationally in 1998 and has been a success ever since. In fact it was the car that can be credited with kicking off the retro-chic segment, in which modern and comfortable interpretations of long standing classic cars are making a rapid resurgence as fashion statements. Amongst these are the MINIs, and the Fiat 500 which is already on sale in India.
The pull of the Beetle brand however has already established itself strong here, with the company already reporting about 125 confirmed bookings for the New Beetle despite its premium pricing.
Volkswagen also had a surprise launch at the evening, the massive Touareg SUV. Launched at a price of Rs 51.84 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, the SUV will come with a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 diesel engine. The car shares many of its aggregates with the Porsche Cayenne, and is expected to go up against the likes of the BMW X5 and the Mercedes-Benz M-Class.
