The Naza Group of Companies has been appointed the new distributor for the Chevrolet brand in Malaysia. The company today signed an agreement with GM to become the sole and exclusive authorised distributor in the country.

Under the agreement, Naza will establish and maintain a network of dealers to promote, sell and service Chevrolet vehicles, including the sale of parts and accessories. The two parties are currently discussing the possibility of completely knocked down (CKD) assembly operations of certain Chevrolet vehicles through the Group’s assembly plant in Gurun, Kedah.

Naza Group of Companies joint executive chairman and CEO Datuk SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin described the landmark signing as a way forward for the Group to offer a wider choice of vehicles and brands to Malaysians, adding that the possibility of locally assembling Chevrolet vehicles would not just increase the variety of model choices for consumers but also place the country as the hub for Chevrolet cars within the region.

General Motors South East Asia operations president Steve Carlisle said that he was confident that GM had found the right partner with which it can focus on working towards mutual goals of growth and expansion.

Spearheading the comprehensive product portfolio will be the Cruze 1.8l sedan, which is expected to arrive by the second quarter of the year. There are currently eight Chevy dealerships and Naza aims to increase this to 18 by year’s end, all 3S facilities, with five of these being Naza's own branches.
